37 Week Update

We had our 37 week appointment on the 23rd. I am now 2cm and 50% effaced, so my body is getting it together and doing exactly what it should be, woohoo! I've had a lot of contractions in the last week, so I'm glad they're actually doing something for me.

I had contractions last night for a couple of hours, and again tonight for about an hour, but they went away. I don't think I'll be going into actual labor anytime real soon though. If my cervix is continuing to change and look favorable, we'll be bringing up the topic of induction at our 39 week appointment on Dec. 6th. I'm hoping we can go to our appointment and she'll just send us right on up to L&D to get the show on the road. But we shall see! I don't want to go in for an induction with an unfavorable cervix, so it's all going to depend on what's going on at these next two appointments.

  1. Are you planning on an epidural? Inductions are usually more painful than waiting for natural labor to begin on it's own. My 3 singletons all came at 41 weeks and I refused to discuss induction (without medical justification) until after 41 weeks. 42 weeks is still considered normal/full-term, though many doctors are urging intervention at 40 weeks this is not recommended by ACOG.

  2. Yes, I will be having an epidural. I have a 2 hour drive, or more in traffic, to the hospital where I have to deliver. My doctor is worried about me not making it to term, and about me having a fast labor since my last one was less than 4 hours. Delivering on the interstate is not really something I'd like to gamble with if I don't have to. I know 42 weeks is full term, but I personally am not comfortable going past my due date. My doctor can induce me 10 days early with medical reason- and fast labor + a long drive is her medical reason.

  3. No updates since the 24th . . . Thanksgiving busy or are you having a baby? :)

Glad you're doing an epidural . . . Pitocin is no joke. My water broke with my own, so they gave me pictocin (no other drugs) so I was HATING IT! LOL
